Beyond words

Though words I write, I know that words have been
The root of man’s unique, original sin.
Abstraction gives us power to survive
But insulates us from what is alive.

A glimpse into reality’s silent core—
That’s what the word “ineffable” is for,
Reminding us to take a language fast
And celebrate our intuition’s vast
Ability to comprehend the whole.

If only we can abdicate the goal
Of separate understanding for each part,
Embracing a ripe fullness in the heart—

But no! I will not numb my brain for this,
No matter if I’m offered cosmic bliss.
